Care Instructions
Care Instructions
Each Korowai by Hiria piece is thoughtfully handcrafted and deserves to be treated with care.
Handling & Wearing
Handle your piece gently, particularly around feathers, tāniko and decorative details. Avoid excessive pulling, rubbing or contact with sharp objects that may damage delicate materials.
Natural Feather Shedding
A small amount of feather shedding is completely normal and expected over time. It is not unusual for approximately 2–5 feathers to come loose when your kākahu is being handled or worn, even with careful use.
This is a natural characteristic of feathered garments and does not necessarily indicate a fault in craftsmanship.
Cleaning
We recommend avoiding machine washing, tumble drying, soaking or harsh cleaning products. For minor marks, gently spot-clean suitable fabric surfaces with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid wetting feathers, tāniko or decorative elements.
For more significant cleaning requirements, please contact our team for advice before attempting to clean your piece.
Storage
Store your piece in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight, moisture and excessive heat. For feathered kākahu, ensure feathers are not compressed or folded for extended periods. We recommend storing in a garment bag in between use.
Display
If displaying your piece, choose a dry location away from direct sunlight to help preserve its colours, materials and overall appearance.
With thoughtful care, your piece can continue to be worn, displayed and treasured for generations to come.
