Hosted at the Korowai by Hiria studio, our poi workshops invite individuals, whānau, schools, community groups and organisations to learn about the whakapapa of poi while creating their own handmade poi to take home.

Whether you're reconnecting with your culture or discovering poi for the very first time, our workshops are designed to be welcoming, engaging and suitable for all experience levels.

Meet Your Kaiako

Our workshops are facilitated by Hiria Aorangi and Gloria Niha, co-founders of the NZ Poi Shop.

With over seven years of teaching poi across Aotearoa, Hiria and Gloria have shared the art and traditions of poi with thousands of participants of all ages. Their workshops combine cultural knowledge, creativity and genuine connection, creating meaningful experiences that honour the traditions of poi while making learning engaging and accessible.

Together, they have contributed to some of Aotearoa's largest cultural initiatives, including the Women's Rugby World Cup, FIFA Women's World Cup, and Poi Tukua, delivering poi experiences that celebrate Māori culture on both community and international stages.
