Expertly handcrafted with aroha in our Auckland Atelier and ready to send in 10+ business days

This one-of-a-kind Kōtare clothing design pays tribute to Hiria's beloved brother. Inspired by the frequent visits of a Kingfisher to her family, the design incorporates a stunning combination of royal blue, bright turquoise, natural browns, and white feathers. A turquoise poutama taniko band adds the finishing touch. This design honors her brother's role as a Kaitiaki (protector) and his enduring love for his family, even from the spirit world.

Handcrafted by a whanau (family) business in Aotearoa (New Zealand), each piece is guided by tikanga (cultural customs) and the wisdom of kaumatua (elders). Notably, these unisex pieces have garnered attention in publications like Vogue, Vanity Fair, Tatler, and Glamour Magazine.

The width of this product is 110cm and it comes with 60cm corded ties. For the most accurate measurement, we suggest measuring around your upper chest, shoulders, and upper back. The majority of buyers will find that they fit within the 100-130cm width range.

When choosing the right length, keep in mind that the Quarter length is 40cm, the Half Length is 60cm, and the Full Length is 100cm. To ensure you make the best selection, measure from your shoulder point down the side of your body.

Every Kākahu we make comes with a special blessing, honoring the tradition of blessing taonga. This helps maintain the mana of each event we celebrate while wearing the korowai, and teaches respect for our māori taonga.
