This Kids Kingfisher Blue Contemporary Korowai is a heartfelt tribute to Hiria’s brother and the protective spirit symbolized by the Kingfisher. Its vibrant royal blue, turquoise, natural browns, and white feathers are thoughtfully combined with a turquoise taniko band, embodying deep Māori cultural values. Handmade in New Zealand by Hiria and her family, each korowai is crafted with great respect for tikanga and carries a special blessing, offering not only warmth and beauty but also a meaningful connection to heritage and protection for your child.

Each korowai is carefully handmade by Hiria and her family in their Auckland home studio. This size is crafted within 2 weeks, then blessed before being shipped straight to you.Designed for children aged 6-12, 

Materials

The materials used and sourced for our contemporary designs are as follows:

Lining: Black polycotton blend

Feathers: Our contemporary korowai designs include a variety of colored craft feathers for fashion industry clothing and costumes, particularly hen and rooster coque feathers.

Bands: Our contemporary korowai designs include machine made taniko bands made locally in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

For best fit, measure around your upper chest, shoulders, and upper back.

Length Options:

  • Half: 60cm
  • Full: 100cm

Measure from shoulder point down the side of your body to choose the best length.

Korowai Width Sizes:

  • Small (to fit 90-100cm)
