The Wairua Purple Contemporary Korowai is handcrafted in our West Auckland studio and designed for those moments that stay with us for a lifetime.

Inspired by the meaning of wairua—our spirit and inner essence—this design is created to honour the connections that shape who we are. Whether celebrating an achievement, standing alongside whānau, remembering loved ones or marking a new chapter, Wairua is a reminder that we never walk alone.

Its rich purple tones represent dignity, wisdom and the quiet strength found within. Contemporary in design and handcrafted with care, it offers a modern expression of a taonga that carries both meaning and intention.

Every korowai is Ava-crafted by hand using premium materials and made especially for you. No two are exactly the same, making each piece as unique as the journey of the person who wears it.

Available in Small to 3XL and offered in Cape, Quarter, Half and Full Length options, Wairua can be chosen to suit everything from graduation ceremonies and performances to weddings, special occasions and treasured gifts.

Materials

The materials used and sourced for our contemporary designs are as follows:

Lining: Black polycotton blend

Feathers: Our contemporary korowai designs include a variety of colored craft feathers for fashion industry clothing and costumes, particularly hen and rooster coque feathers.

Bands: Our contemporary korowai designs include machine made taniko bands made locally in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
