Pōhutukawa, which is connected to the dead and those who have passed away in the past year. Māori belief covers that the spirit leaves the body when a person dies, and then journeys along the pathway of spirits known as Te Ara Wairua. This journey ends at the tip of the North Island at Te Rerenga Wairua where an ancient Pōhutukawa tree stands on a rocky ledge towards the ocean. The spirits then descend the aka (root) of the tree entering the underworld. You can look upon this star in reflection and remembrance of loved ones who have passed.

Design Features: The Matariki Collection showcases a 2.5 inch wide tāniko band with a Maroon Niho Taniwha pattern and a Gold accent. It is paired with all raspberry red rooster coque feathers, and the quarter length design allows the feathers to elegantly fall on the forearms. This length adds the perfect touch of sparkle to any outfit.

Care Instructions

These Korowai are categorised as FRAGILE GARMENTS and need special care and attention to see it last as a multi-generational heirloom.

Spot clean only - do not machine wash or handwash. Do not twist or wring. Do not tumble dry. Do not dry clean. Never iron. Due to the fragile nature of the feathers, you will risk damaging your Korowai if you do not follow these strict care instructions.

If you must spot clean your Korowai, do not hang it in direct or strong sunlight as this can damage and cause your feather colours to fade over time. Let it dry out in the shade.
